Change is never easy—but when it is done keeping students at the center, it becomes a step forward. In a landmark move, the Rajasthan Education Department has decided to commence the new academic session 2026-26 starting from 1st April 2026, in place of the previous July 1st start date.
This change applies to government schools across the state and aligns their schedule with that of private schools. The decision was confirmed by the Education Minister, Madan Dilawar.
This decision marks a significant shift in Rajasthan’s education system, aligning it more closely with national academic timelines and long-standing recommendations from educators and policy makers. The primary goal is to ensure that students have a full academic year for studies, including a strong foundation before the summer break. This is expected to help in completing the syllabus smoothly and potentially increase enrolment in government schools.
Why Were the Exam Dates Revised?
Traditionally, board examinations in Rajasthan often stretched well into April, delaying results and compressing the start of the next academic session. This left students with little time to rest, reflect, or prepare for the next grade.
To address this, the Hon’ble Education Minister of Rajasthan proposed a structured reform aimed at:
- Starting the new academic session uniformly on 1st April
- Reducing academic pressure on students
- Providing sufficient preparation and result-processing time
- Aligning Rajasthan with CBSE and other national boards
Hence RBSE has also revised the board examination schedule for Classes 5, 8, 10, and 12 to align with the new session planning.
What Has Changed?
As part of this reform, the examination schedules for key classes have been advanced. Key dates of RBSE Board exams are below
